Magaluf is one of the prime tourist locations on the Balearic island of Mallorca. This coastal holiday resort can be found on the northwestern coast of Mallorca approximately 30 minutes’ drive from the island’s capital of Palma de Mallorca. This resort has a population of just under 4000 inhabitants and it primarily serves as a holiday destination for European tourists during the summer months. Magaluf has a fine mix of lively nightlife, fantastic hotels and accommodation, and some absolutely stunning golden beaches.

This area of Mallorca is best explored in a hire car and we will divulge the reasons why below, but if you love beaches and relaxation, we have compiled a list of some of the best stretches of sand in and around the Magaluf area:

Which beaches are considered the best surrounding Magaluf?

As mentioned above, Magaluf and the surrounding coastal region is famed for its plethora of beautiful beaches. Although Mallorca is an island with a rugged and rocky coastline, you can still find a variety of gorgeous beaches with soft golden sand and a host of amenities. These beaches are the perfect place to relax, soak up the Mediterranean sun and rejuvenate. The following beaches are some of the best that Magaluf and the northwestern region of Mallorca have to offer:

Palma Nova Beach

This beach is located in the northern part of Magaluf above Punta de Sa Porrassa and Torrenova.  Starting at the Carrer Martin Ros Garcia and stretching to the Globales Santa Lucia hotel on Carrer Duc Estremera, this beach is approximately 500m long and quite wide too. The sand is warm, soft and golden and the waters of the bay are shallow and perfect for swimming in.

Palma Nova Beach is hugely popular and also sell serviced – surrounding the beach you can find a myriad of high-quality hotels and accommodation. Furthermore, along the promenade, you can find a series of restaurants, bars, and cafes and also a gorgeous public park. Although this beach is one of the busiest in Magaluf, it is spacious and there is plenty of room to spread out.

Magaluf Beach

Whilst Palma Nova Beach sits to the north of Torrenova, Magaluf Beach is situated directly beneath it and south of Punta de Sa Porrassa. Magaluf beach is the longest in the area and stretches for approximately 800m from the Universal Hotel Florida, down to the roundabout at the end of Magaluf Avenue. This is another busy beach and benefits from a range of dedicated sun loungers with parasols. The sand is again gorgeous and soft and the waters are clear and inviting.

The main promenade is packed with beach bars and restaurants and lined with palm trees and greenery; you can easily grab a bite to eat or a drink any time of the day. Adjacent to Magaluf Beach is the famous Isla de Sa Porrassa (more commonly known as Black Lizard Island) – many people enjoy swimming across to this island as it is only 400-500m from the beach. As you would guess, this island is known for its population of beautiful black lizards.

Cala Falco Beach

Although much smaller in size, Cala Falco Beach is truly captivating and is tucked away in a quiet corner approximately 10 minutes’ drive from the center of Magaluf. This beach has dedicated parking and is surrounded by gorgeous forests near the Cap des Falco. If you want to escape the crowds of tourists in Magaluf, this relatively quiet beach is the perfect solution. Aside from the small beach itself, the surrounding area and coastline is a great place to explore and perfect for those who enjoy walking.

Santa Ponsa Beach

On the opposite side of the coastline to Magaluf, you can find the town of Santa Ponsa. This is another fantastic resort and has a beautiful beach too. Santa Ponsa Beach can be found in the northern part of the town adjacent to the golf course. Stretching for just 200m, this beach is much smaller but benefits from sublime white sands and the bay is dotted with fishing boats and clear shallow waters. To experience a different part of Mallorca, Santa Ponsa is a great location and is only a 15-minute drive from Magaluf.

El Toro Beach

If you travel 10 minutes to the south of Santa Ponsa you will reach the smaller town of El Toro. This resort town has a host of holiday villas and apartments and is a great place to visit. The beach at El Toro is quite small but it has beautiful sand and is sheltered by the bay – there is also dedicated parking directly behind the beach. El Toro has a relaxed vibe and next to the beach there is a beautiful harbor with a myriad of fishing and sailing boats.
