Alicante is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the eastern coast of Spain. The Costa Blanca is renowned for its picture perfect stretches of golden sand and host of wonderful hotels and tourist amenities. People flock from near and far to find relaxation and enjoy the blistering Mediterranean sunshine during the spring and summer months. If you are looking for a place to escape, and want to while the hours away on a beach, we have selected 5 of the best beaches in Alicante for your enjoyment.

Guardamar, Guardamar del Segura

Only a short drive to the north of Torrevieja along the N-332 you can find the charming town of Guardamar del Segura. This small coastal town is a great place for a day trip and is much quieter than some of the more popular locations such as Benidorm. The beach at Guardamar stretches for some 10km and features soft golden sand against a backdrop of gorgeous pine trees.

As this location is quieter, the beach may seem almost isolated which is a true joy for those who wish to escape and find a quiet corner of their own to relax in. There is plenty of dedicated car parks for public use, and the main beachfront adjacent to the town has a host of amenities, bars and restaurants.

El Cura, Torrevieja

If you are looking for a livelier atmosphere but still want to relax in the sun, El Cura could be the ideal location. This small stretch of golden sand can be found in the central stretch of coast adjacent to the bustling town of Torrevieja. Only a short distance from the main harbour and the popular Plaza de Oriente, this beach is easily accessible and surrounded by many hotels, restaurants and bars.

At the back of the beach, you can find the Avenue de [G1] los Marineros which is a popular place to stroll – the street is lined with palm trees and an abundance of seats. During the evening this strip is a great place to walk and take in the pleasant night temperatures and perhaps enjoy a drink or two in one of the many bars.

San Juan, Alicante

The city of Alicante itself has several beautiful beaches but the most impressive is undoubtedly San Juan. This immense stretch of beach can be found in the eastern part of Alicante in the district of Playa de San Juan. If you are located in the centre of Alicante, you can rent a car with Drivalia and just 15 minutes you will find this magnificent beach.

The actual beach stretches from Cap de L’Horta for some 2km up to the small village of El Campello. In-between these two locations you can enjoy a pristine stretch of unbroken beach and gorgeous white sands. Although a hugely popular location, San Juan is still relatively uncrowded due to its immense size, therefore, you will easily find the perfect spot to relax.

Playa Poniente, Benidorm

Benidorm has gained a reputation as the loud and vibrant party capital of Alicante and if you want to be part of that then the Playa Poniente is the perfect place to go. This long stretch of beach is considered the quieter of the two main strips in Benidorm and is preferable to the heaving Playa de Levante. Poniente is within walking distance of the centre of Benidorm but this beach is only 20 minutes from Benidorm by car.

The beach itself is well equipped and has plenty of sun loungers and amenities. Furthermore, the Avenue Armada Espanola is lined with bars, restaurants and guest houses and there is also a beautiful multi-coloured promenade bursting with greenery.

Playa del Albir, Platja Cap Blanc

If you head from Benidorm along the N-332 road and past the Parque Natural de Serra Gelada you will find the gorgeous towns of Albir and Platja Cap Blanc. In contrast to Benidorm, these towns present havens of peace and are preferable for those who wish to escape the crowds and noise. If you want a true place to relax then the Playa del Albir is a perfect choice.[G4]
