Alicante’s beautiful Parque El Palmeral south of the city is well worth a visit and is easy to find on the N-332 (the Avinguda d’Elx) opposite the Port, close to the beach and with plenty of parking for your car hire from Drivalia car rental – and entry is free for everyone.

If you have children to entertain, the Parque El Palmeral is an outstanding day out in Alicante, where there is plenty to see and do.

Plenty to See

This is no ordinary grove of trees – here you will find something to see at just about every turn in the many winding paths that meander throughout this astonishingly beautiful park with its little ponds and picturesque bridges.

Taking a lengthy stroll in the summer can be a hot and sticky affair but the winter months are ideal to take the opportunity to admire outstanding Mediterranean parklands. There are marvellous specimen plants and trees; waterfalls; designated gardens full of colour and rare flowers; a magnificent grove of palm trees and that all important café serving delicious refreshments.

Between the exotic flowers and shrubs and the formal gravelled gardens, play areas to amuse the children are placed sympathetically amongst the foliage and supervision is easy from a nice comfortable bench and picnic areas in the shade.

The Boating Lake and Other Entertainments

You can take a small boat out onto the lake for a maximum of 15 minutes. Please note that you will need to present some identification at the point of hire.

If you are feeling lucky, try your hand at a game of Boules or Chess – or even Ludo! There is a modest sports ground and also a BMX track where enthusiasts practise their cycling skills and perform tricks for admiring spectators.

If you fancy a little exercise there is gym equipment available for use – and all free of charge.

The Auditorium

Here you can see an impromptu puppet show or cultural dance, perhaps an enchanting hour of story-telling set to music… the programme varies from one week to another but there is usually something entertaining that is worth watching with most performances starting at 12.30pm.

A delightful oasis, spectacular value being free to use – and a wonderful change from the bustle of the city centre, the Parque El Palmeral makes a wonderful day out in Alicante.

The park is open from 9am to 11pm in the winter months and from 9am until midnight in the summer.
